Looking for my sister's killer
This is the second in a series highlighting daily life of ordinary citizens in this country: “My sister was murdered. She was stabbed in her neck and set on fire. She was 42, the mother of two teenagers.
What have we come to
Fourth in a series of columns on the daily life of citizens in this county: "My life is here. My husband runs our family business, which we have built up over a lifetime, but I am preparing to leave this country with my children.
Contempt motion succeeds - applause for Maharaj
History was made yesterday - at least in Trinidad or perhaps the democratic world. The Speaker of the House Barendra Sinanan has found a prima facie case to refer the Government of Trinidad & Tobago to the Privileges Committee of Parliamentary Ministers for a determination of contempt of the House.
Recklessness
This is the third in a series highlighting daily life of ordinary citizens. Whenever it rains, a 14-year-old feels the steel plate in her thigh expand, dig into her flesh, throb painfully. She can no longer run or jump.
Abusing the Freedom of Information Act
Where the hell is Ramesh 'Lawsuit' Maharaj when you need him? He seems to be wooing some hard-back maxi men with sweet lyrics. I don't know if they will be voting UNC come the next election though, given the area they hail from.
Life of Russian Roulette
This is the first in a series of vignettes of life in Trinidad, starting with an account by a kidnapped man.
Don't be so Cross
The Trinity Cross is about to be replaced with an award that would eliminate the friction and grumbling protests from non-Christians in our plural society. Today, I wish to remind readers of a piece I had written during the controversy.
Shush…What Sense Would It Make?
Two headlines in Thursday’s newspapers just about summed up the sad state of our nation today. The murder of Hope Arismandez captured front page whilst the dropping of serious charges of grievous sexual assault on a 12-year-old girl which occurred in July 2006 was buried deep into the more mundane news.
Crime, Crime, Crime!
The Government has lost its grip on the reins of governance. No one is listening to ministers, except themselves and the audience in front of them that must.
Understanding UDECOTT (final part) - A law unto itself
There is probably more corruption under the PNM than any other government. The machinery is well-oiled and runs smoothly, and unlike the UNC, it isn’t concentrated in the hands of a few but spread a little more evenly, across the board.
Understanding UDECOTT (Part 2) Absolute Power Corrupts..
The public service is supposed to be the engine for the implementation of government’s policy.
Understanding UDECOTT
“In a small country which possesses enormous wealth, and in which allegations of corruption are rife, the government has proclaimed its commitment to accountability, transparency and integrity in public affairs. The courts have a special role to play in protecting this ethos, particularly in State Companies, incor
Open Invitation to Rowley and Valley.
We invite Dr Rowley and Mr Valley to tell it like it is, right here - right now. This site will beam it live in text, video or audio - for no charge or profit whatsoever!!
Please forward this message on to them.
No Change of Heart
The bacchanal over Rowley’s sudden firing is not likely to weaken the PNM.
Actions speak louder than words, Mr Speaker!
Sometimes they say a "picture is worth a thousand words" and that has proven to be so true; then there is another saying "actions speak louder than words" and that too has over time proven to be true as well...without question...Mr. Speaker?...!
Nothing to fear
Last week, I received a call from a distressed parent who had taken her son to the casualty department of San Fernando General Hospital.
Child Suicide-Homicide Trend
I had to interrupt my day to write about this - yet another double tragedy i.e. attempted homicide of children and parent suicide. See Father Feeds Children Dumplings and Lanate in Newsday 2008-04-14. I was in shock because I read a similar story in the last fortnight, I thought - and I did.

A Pyrrhic Panday Victory
I have often debated Panday’s irrational behaviour, trying to deny that that it isn’t a serious flaw in his leadership. One the one hand, one cant help but admire his courage and strength in the face of crisis. He has demonstrated nerves and testicular fortitude under pressure like no man. On the other hand, he doesn’t seem to think things through as he should and it is this disregard for consequences that has him where he is.
Upgraded
The site has been upgraded with a new look.
This took some doing.
With the upgrade will come many new features.
But it isn't all done.
We're still tweaking how the menus work and how the some new features will function.
Feedback on any difficulties can be sent to siteadmin (at) anandramlogan (dot) com. (The email address is written that way to avoid bots sending us spam).

Panday hangs himself..and nails his coffin.
Basdeo Panday has probably committed political suicide after behaving like a real wajang in Parliament last Friday (2008-03-28). See Guardian 2008-03-29.
In essence the Speaker of the House made proper enquiries of Mr Panday's use of a laptop. Mr Panday behaved in a difficult and unhelpful manner and eventually refused to comply with the Speaker's legitimate requests. Mr Panday was then lawfully suspended from the House.
Obama a Winner
The battle for presidential nomination between Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton has captivated America. The fluctuating fortunes and exchanges between these two have eclipsed the fact that the Republican nominee has been finalized.
Balancing the scale
THE public outrage over the death of baby Luke is understandable. The instinctive reaction is to blame someone. And, ultimately, someone must accept blame.
The Ghost of Baby Faith
The death of two-year old Luke Marshall will soon be forgotten by everyone except his parents and family. In seven days time some bigger news story will bump it off the radar and we will all continue merrily living our lives until the next child dies. That next child could be yours.
Piss Proud
One of the things that pisses me off, and I know it does many people, is the amount of pseudo-legal action going on in Trinidad courts. Seldom is it that a case is tried, decided and done with.
The American culprits arrested and probed in the Airport corruption scandal have been sentenced and have nearly served their time. In Trinidad, the culprits are filing frivolous and idiotic legal actions, counter actions etc. and are still fighting an extradition, much less getting close to their real trial.
